The Heist is a food cart pod in SE Portland’s Woodstock neighborhood. It is the premier dining destination in the city hands down with some of the best food. It is a food cart pod done absolutely right. Large indoor and outdoor seating, a bar with an expansive beer list and an incredible roster of food carts of the highest caliber. An embarrassment of riches. I only wish it was closer to me. In this post I’m going to focus on my favorite carts there: Bark City BBQ, Cookie McCakeface, Frybaby, Golden Triangle, Kim Jong Grillin’ and Tacos Fita.

In the header photo at top you see the Golden Rolls from Golden Triangle. Coconut & turmeric crepes wrapped with seasoned ground pork, crisp lettuce, cucumber, and bean sprouts, served with a house-made fish sauce. These are a special and aren’t on the regular menu, but they run them often enough. Easily one of the best bites in town from one of the best carts in town serving Laos & Cambodian fusion food.

Tacos from Tacos Fita. Tacos Fita has several locations in Portland and Beaverton but one thing that doesn’t change is the quality from cart to cart to restaurant. Tacos Fita was just named best tacos in Portland by The Oregonian readers poll. They won because of these tacos pictured above! Phenomenal! Ribeye, Halibut & shrimp tacos on homemade tortillas. These are the best tacos I’ve eaten in my life. The meat seasoned perfectly, the toppings so fresh and bespoke to each taco. Well thought out and executed, bursting with meat and flavor. These are larger tacos. The entire menu slaps, no misses, but if you start with anything there, start with the tacos! Congrats to Rafael and the team at Tacos Fita for their recent win.

The legendary Munchwrap from Kim Jong Grillin’. I got mine with bulgogi, you can also get it with spicy chicken or pork. Bulgogi, shredded cheese, crunchy tostada, daikon and sprout banchan chopped lettuce wrapped and toasted in a flour tortilla and served with dipping sauce. This is one of the most iconic dishes in town for a reason. Flavors are perfect, it is delicious and crave-able, and honestly never gets old! This used to be a special thing only but Han made the wise decision to add it to the regular menu. KJG gets two photos here because they are that special! Below you see the Bibim Box with Galbi short ribs. Wok-fried japchae and rice, your choice of meat, sunny side egg, and chopped lettuce with gochujang, kimchi, daikon, & sprouts on the side. One of my favorite dishes.

Let’s stay with the Korean theme here and move from KJG over to Frybaby, the legendary Korean Fried Chicken (the real KFC!) cart from Sunny Hatch. The menu is pretty straight forward: fried chicken in one of 3 sauces: gochujang, snow cheese or soy garlic. Wings, drumsticks or tenders. Pictured above is the gochujang drumsticks with a side of their famous Kimchi Mac & Cheese (a must order). This is my go to order. I love the wings as well, but I prefer the drumsticks. They are large and have so much delicious chicken meat! Also they make killer sandwiches and the sides are great too.

Let’s continue the theme of iconic dishes. KJG has the munchwrap, Frybaby the KFC and now Bark City BBQ has the Brisket Caesar Wrap! Brisket, Romaine, Caesar dressing (house made), parmesan and cornbread croutons. You can also get this with chicken, though for me the flavor profile of the brisket makes a more interesting bite. I don’t exaggerate when I say that every dish listed in this post is one of the best dishes and bites in town. And not just food carts, I’m talking restaurants too. This wrap is only available on Wednesdays but is 100% worth it. The flavor, size and value at $15 are unmatched. Delicious potato salad too. Bark City is some of the best BBQ in a city with excellent BBQ! They get a double post as well so you can see a more traditional BBQ tray. Below is from when Bark City moved back to Portland from Arizona and opened up at the Heist. They have a traditional BBQ menu and everything is done so well. Highly recommend all the meats and sides! Pictured below are Baby Back Ribs, Brisket, Potato Salad and Jalapeno Mac. Phenomenal.

No visit to the Heist would be complete without a stop at Cookie McCakeface, the beloved cookie cart. Large, incredible cookies. Quite possibly the best cookies you will ever eat in your life. This was a special from May 2025 I can’t remember exactly what it was, but you can’t go wrong with any cookie from the menu, I’ve had them all and at this point I tend to get whatever special Sarah is offering up.

I have been a day one at all these places, literally a decade of eating the likes Golden Triangle, KJG and Bark City. They used to be in different places of course, but the fact that they are now in the same pod is CRAZY!! Literally it boggles the mind. There are way more carts at the Heist than the ones I’ve highlighted here too. And I’m pretty sure the ones I haven’t been to are incredible as well, but it’s hard to not go to my favorite ones. Like I said, an embarrassment of riches. You could go to the Heist for lunch everyday for a year and not get through all the menus at all the carts. That’s why I figured I would offer a guide to my favorites at least.
