This post is about my favorite new sandwiches in town, whether a new addition to the menu or a new sandwich shop. Four ones to talk about, let’s get into it.

Smoked Chicken Salad Sando from HarBq. For those that don’t know, HarBq is a food cart posted up at Von Ebert Brewing in inner North Portland that is serving some of the best bbq around. A few weeks ago they started serving this sandwich and it is as of now on the regular menu. First off, just look at how incredible it looks! Look at all that fresh dill. This is one of the best chicken salad sandwiches I’ve ever had. The chicken was very rich and had a nice deep smoke flavor. Their sides are great as well, love the queso mac. Menus always change, but my understanding is that this will be on the regular menu. But really you can’t go wrong with anything you order at HarBq!

The Springer, new seasonal addition to the menu at Pasture. Pasture tends to have around 12 sandwiches on their roster and maybe 1 or 2 specials that last awhile. This sandwich was added within the last few months. If you follow my blog or IG at all, you know that my top 3 favorite sandwich places in town are Dimo’s, Walter French’s, and Pasture. Pasture is always killing it with elevated sandwiches, incredible house prepared meats (they are a full-animal butchery too) and incredible sauces. This sandwich was no exception. Roast Pork, Smoked Ham, Provolone, Lemon-Basil Aioli, Arugula, Pickled Red Onions, Pepper Sauce on Ciabatta. The artistry here is impressive, and the sauces are very crave-able. Cannot recommend this sandwich highly enough (or really any sandwich on their menu).

Tuna Sandwich from The Nosh Pit in North Portland. While this has been on the menu since day one, this is a new sandwich shop that opened less than 6 months ago, so everything is new! They have a roster of 8 sandwiches and this is the second time I’ve been here. Their motto tells you everything: Chopped – Toasted – Loud. They are making chopped-style sandwiches where all the ingredients are tossed together then chopped and slid into the toasted sandwich bun. I had my first chopped sandwich when Dos Hermanos started slinging them when they opened their space on Stark. I get it as a style and it’s a welcome addition to the sandwich world. This tuna sandwich was really incredible and unique. Smoked Ahi Tuna, shredded cabbage, pickled daikon & carrots, ginger, cilantro, wasabi aioli. Kind of an east meets west kind of deal. Love the flavor of the smoked tuna, and the cabbage and other veggies offered up a real nice crunch component to the sandwich. Love the ginger, cilantro and wasabi! Definitely recommend this sandwich and checking out their new shop.

Last but not least is the April Chefwich from Chef Ian Williams of Deadstock Coffee fame at Lardo. I should note that as today is April 29th, you only have 1 day left to eat this sandwich. House turkey pastrami, sharp cheddar, provolone, mayo, mustard, pickles, tomato, cukes, cabbage slaw. This was tasty in a kind of “inspired home cook” kind of way. The thing that really elevated the sandwich was the house made turkey pastrami. I don’t know exactly what they did, but I know that it was delicious! Lardo is one of the oldest and most venerated sandwich shops in Portland and they make great sandwiches all around. One thing they do that I really love is to offer a monthly “chefwich” made by a local chef in collaboration with Rick at Lardo. They are almost always tasty, unique worth making a trip for. They often get pretty crazy! But in a totally delicious way. So, rest assured that even though you might not get this sandwich, there will be a new delicious chefwich no matter what month you stop in. Or get something off the regular menu! The Pho’rench Dip is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in town or really the entire planet. Also that Rhinestone Breakfast Burrito is so incredible. As always, I’ll be here to let you know what the hottest new sandwiches in town are, they don’t call me the Portland Sandwich King for nothing! Happy eating.
