Breakfast Burrito Roundup

Following my last post, I decided I needed to do a PDX Breakfast Burrito Roundup. The only thing potentially better than a breakfast sandwich is a breakfast burrito. Here are some of my favorites from the last year

First up is a real stunner from Los Burros Supremos, a recently opened up burrito joint downtown. All they do is burritos, and they do them well. Scrambled Egg, Queso Chihuahua + Jack, Crispy Potato, Charred Poblano, Salsa Verde. Your choice of protein. I went with marinated carne asada and then added guacamole. The steak at this place is incredible, so flavorful! This is a classy, elevated version of the humble breakfast burrito.

Next up is the Rhinestone Breakfast Burrito from the venerable Lardo. Lardo is an institution in Portland, offering up some of the best sandwiches in the city for the last 15 years. They just added this breakfast burrito to their regular menu (SE PDX location) a few months ago and it’s a real stunner! Cheddar scramble, pork belly burnt ends, smashed tots, avocado salsa verde, cilantro, Marshall’s Rhinestone Cowboy Coffee hot sauce. This thing really blew me away. So crave-able. Love the burnt ends as well as the newish tradition of putting tots in burritos (or sandwiches!). The flavors went great together, and the hot sauce was perfect and delicious.

Next up is the most traditional, yet insanely delicious breakfast burrito from Mole Mole, a food cart with 2 locations in town. This is from the cart on Mississippi next to Prost. Mole Mole serves up some of the best Mexican food in town, hands down. Every thing I get there is a winner. They recently added some breakfast items to the menu (not sure if it’s the same at the Alberta location). Bacon, egg, potato, rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole. Meat choices are bacon, chorizo or asada, and there are 3 veggie options as well. This was a perfect burrito. All the small details are there. And easily the best value at only $10!

Next up is the ‘Rito Suave from Fried Egg I’m In Love. Fried Egg I’m In Love has multiple locations around town, both brick-and-mortars and carts. This is from the Mississippi restaurant which opened a year ago. Very cool space in there. Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, cheddar, avocado, aioli, pico. Pro tip is to add a hash bite in there (highly recommended!). This thing was super yummy. A bit on the small side but otherwise very crave-able.

Last up is possibly my favorite. This is from Nacheaux, a mobile food cart in town. Chef Anthony cooks up some of the best food in town with Southern charm and Mexican flair! Full disclosure: he changes up the menu regularly so you never know what you’ll get. This isn’t a regular menu item (there are no regular menu items!). So killer, so cheesy, so delicious. I got smoked sausage in this one.

I hope you enjoyed this roundup of my favorite breakfast burritos in town. Happy eating!

great list—will start working through it! May I humbly recommend the Huevo Yucateco at Smart Donkey? Only available on weekends, and they don’t open until 11am, but a favorite of mine.
