The Bulgogi + Dukuhbee Noodle

Tucked into a mostly vacant block on NE Sandy between 42nd and 43rd in Portland, OR lies one of the best Korean restaurants in town. Don’t let the cumbersome business name or the humble storefront deter you from stopping in to try their offerings which include the namesake Du Kuh Bee Hand-Pulled Noodles, Bibimbap, Bulgogi, Mandoo or Seoul Wings. The space inside is small, seating for 12 maybe, though each time I’ve gone I’ve gotten takeout for lunch after the gym. Everything I’ve had there is really good. Top tier flavors, ingredients and dishes. I’m glad some people turned me on to this spot, since otherwise I wouldn’t have found it (minimal advertising or social media, mostly a IYKYK spot). They had a beloved Beaverton location that closed years ago, and this Portland location I believe opened in 2024. If you enjoy Korean food, definitely make a point to stop by!

My first meal there a few months back. On a recommendation from a fellow foodie, I ordered what he got and it wound up being the perfect order (as well as being my favorite order from them so far). The namesake noodles with beef, Seoul Wings (Korean style deep fried wings) and a side of both kimchi and pickled radish. The noodles were so good. Back in the day only Frank’s offered hand-pulled (or stretched) noodles, but now we have three locations that serve these excellent noodles, the two aforementioned locations and Stretch the Noodle, a downtown food cart. These KFC wings were some of the best I’ve had. Perfectly crispy as well as saucy on the outside. Korean Banchan is a must, and the two they offer are kimchi and pickled radish. The radish was perfect, kimchi was pretty good, though the flavor was tame and un-funky compared to what I am used to. Still great for the gut though!

From my third visit last month I got the Beef Bulgogi. This was a perfectly balanced bowl for lunch. Beef, rice, salad, pickled radish and potstickers. The quality and quantity was great. No notes on this meal, really comforting food. The Mandoo (potstickers) were really good, next time I need a side order of those. On my second visit I got the Bibimbap which was also a perfect bowl of food. Your choice of meat with carrot, spinach, red cabbage, bean sprout, zucchini, radish, shredded egg, steamed rice and a choice of Bulgogi or Gochujang sauce. The picture was not up to my standards so I didn’t post it on Instagram or include it here. The food was great though! This restaurant has definitely turned into a regular spot for my lunches, so I’m glad I got turned on to it and I’m doing my part to recommend it to others.
