In terms of the best burger in Portland, there’s a new sheriff in town, and the name is Lone Star. Slinging 1/2 pound patties of delicious, fresh ground brisket and sirloin, Lone Star is taking no prisoners. When it comes to quality burgers, it always starts with the meat, and Lone Star delivers! Delicious, beefy, perfectly cooked and juicy. What started as a brief pop-up at the end of 2024 has solidified into a restaurant at 1625 NE Killingsworth open from 12-8 daily. They have a full bar and a limited (but delicious) menu of a handful of burgers, dogs, fries and incredible onion rings. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is the hot dog. Don’t be put off by what sounds like a basic menu though, this really is the best burger in town, and the fries and onion rings are on point. Next time you are craving a burger, definitely stop here.
Pictured above is from my first visit and is their Green Chile Burger. Their classic 1/2lb patty with house roasted green Chiles, house made Serrano aioli, American cheese, shaved red onions and pickles on a Dos Hermanos bun. It is not only the best burger in PDX but the best burger I’ve ever had. Seriously. I love green chiles and they are one of my favorite ingredients in general, especially on a burger. Really incredible execution all around. I also got an order of their onion rings (pictured at the bottom of the page) which are some of the best in town.

Next up is a special they were running in January. They are always running one special burger per day/week, often teaming up with Cowbell, an artisan cheesemonger based in town. This was their Blue Cheese burger with an imported Estrella La Peral Spanish cheese from Cowbell. I’m used to heavy, funky blue cheeses (which I love!) but this was a revelation due to how smooth and mellow it was. Really delicious and paired perfectly with their patty and a side of fries (which are on point!)

Last up is the special from a few weeks ago from my most recent visit. It is their take on a “Colorado Slopper” which I had never heard of before. Basically their green Chile burger smothered in green chile sauce. Wound up eating this one with a fork and knife which felt a little strange. Really good and crave-able, if a bit less focused than the other burgers. I’m all about coating my fries in green chile though!
I’m going to make a point to post more regularly here, I’m aiming for once a week, so make sure to subscribe and check back weekly. Cheers to my friend Branson for urging me to post more as someone who doesn’t use Instagram. As always, check my IG for my daily posts and eats. I’ll leave you with a photo of their incredible onion rings. Happy eating!
