Yesterday the weather in Portland was gorgeous in the mid 70s and I knew I wanted to do 2 things: sit in the sun and try some delicious new food items.
Dimo’s Apizza opened a few years ago on East Burnside and is a very east-coast style establishment. Think Italian comfort food via New Haven style pizza. They have a nice large restaurant and patio. Counter service, casual. Really solid food. Not fancy like a lot of places in town, just done right and delicious, with a eye towards making everything in house. In the past I have ordered pizzas and sandwiches from them, but yesterday I was in a pasta mood and they had a special Lumache (pictured above). Fennel sausage, broccoli raab, Sofrito of fennel onion and garlic, chili, white wine, grana, pecorino, burro, breadcrumb. It was super tasty and comforting, like a fancier version of mac and cheese. It had just a bit of kick to it and was very craveable.

I also ordered their Brussels Sprouts, which they serve in a agrodolce vinaigrette with charred red onion, picked mint, parsley, dill. This was a stunning dish! I love Brussels sprouts and this might be my favorite all time preparation of them. The agrodolce was perfect and addicting, and the herbs, especially the dill was a nice herbaceous foil to the richness of the dish. This was a large side and could almost be a meal of its own. Paired with a Pilsner, this was a great and delicious way of enjoying a beautiful Portland fall day. Highly recommend Dimo’s Apizza. Happy eating!
