Tito’s Taquitos

I went to the grand opening of Tito’s Taquitos this weekend. This is their first brick and mortar restaurant after starting a popular and successful food cart a few years ago. I had heard good things but hadn’t visited the cart yet. Thankfully the restaurant is much closer to where I live. They had me at taquitos. Who doesn’t love taquitos? They have taken what I normally think of as a snack and turned it into the main course. Each order comes with 4 potato filled taquitos topped with avocado sauce and queso fresco with radishes and pickled onions on the side atop a bed of cabbage. Then you can add protein on top if you so desire. Choices are beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, mushrooms or garbanzo beans. They all sounded really tasty. I got the braised beef, birria style. The dish is pictured above. All the ingredients are super tasty, they make their own masa and tortillas for the taquitos and tacos. The meat was super flavorful and the dish worked really well together. Their salsas were tasty and had a legit kick to them. Add one taco and it is a full meal.

I had heard that they made a good fish taco and I heard correctly. This one did not disappoint and was one of the better fish tacos I’ve had, especially this far north. The fish was lightly beer battered and fried perfectly with just a bit of crunch on the outside and flaky and hot inside. Served simply on their homemade tortilla with cabbage, radish, pickled red onions, avocado sauce and a mayo based sauce. Very tasty. The only thing better than delicious food is delicious free food! Homeboy brought out a free dessert, a tres leches style cake with fresh berries. Very tasty! Rare that I have dessert, especially at lunch, but it was cool and refreshing and left me quite full. The food is really on point here. I did go on opening day, and they have some things that they have to work out in terms of the restaurant, but that is expected with a new restaurant, especially transitioning from a food cart. Definitely worth a visit! Happy Eating.
